Our History

The local United Way was formed in 1923 as the Community Chest & United Fund by the combined efforts of the Little Rock, North Little Rock and Jacksonville Chambers of Commerce to unite charitable fundraising efforts into one annual appeal. Since, it has endured many name changes including in 1962 to Health & Welfare Council of Pulaski County, in 1972 to United Way of Pulaski County and finally in 2006 to Heart of Arkansas United Way.  This latest renaming reflects our local effort to expand to surrounding areas of Pulaski County and throughout Arkansas that are not currently being serviced by United Way.

What We Do

Over the past 80 plus years, the Heart of Arkansas United Way has developed and maintained a network of relationships with citizens, local businesses, state & federal governmental agencies, faith-based organizations, and other nonprofits to develop collaborations that will have a positive and sustainable impact in our community. We provide support to organizations throughout Arkansas that specialize in the specific needs of their community.

Heart of Arkansas United Way does this through numerous channels including workplace campaigns, leadership societies and operating a Volunteer Center.
