Volunteers of the Week

September 6, 2010

Our Volunteer of the Week for the week of September 6th, 2010 is Ann McElroy. Ann has been volunteering with Helping Hand of Greater Little Rock for more than 2 years.

Ms. McElroy works in the food room packing and sorting donated food in bags for the clients. Ann is a good team member and works well with the other volunteers.  She also makes herself available when needed. Helping Hand is able to distribute food bags in a timely manner thanks to volunteers like Ann.

Thank you “Ann McElroy”!  KSSN’s, Discount Trophies and Eggland’s Best “Volunteer’s of the Week”.

Frank and Una McClure have been volunteering at the Jacksonville Museum of Military History since before the doors were opened.  They have volunteered with construction, cleaning, event set-up and take-down, selling tickets for Museum events and developed the Arkansas Air National Guard Exhibit.

Mr. and Mrs. McClure volunteer every Wednesday and whenever we have an event at the Museum. Frank and Una both turned 80 years young this year and despite that they are energized, committed and humble about all they do. They don’t just volunteer at the Museum, they visit nursing homes and the sick and they prepare meals for families of their church when there is a funeral.  Frank and Una also sponsored a Hurricane Katrina family in their time of need.

The McClure’s are always available when they are needed and Frank willingly and gladly performs the most thankless but necessary job in the museum….he cleans!!!! Including toilets and never complains, God Bless him!!!

Thank you “Frank & Una McClure”!  KSSN’s, Discount Trophies and Eggland’s Best “Volunteer’s of the Week”.

Volunteers Make a Strong Community

The Heart of Arkansas United Way doesn't just need your financial support. Your time, effort, expertise and energy can be put to good use by volunteering at one of our agencies or many other organizations.

Our Volunteer Center has more than 190 agencies in Pulaski County that each have opportunities for volunteer work. Our center acts as a clearinghouse for all these opportunities by helping match your area of interest or expertise with the need of individual agencies. Opportunities exist for both youth and adults. Whether your talent is tutoring students, assisting seniors, working with animals, cleaning our environment or just providing a helping hand, we have these and many other opportunities available to you. Click here to access the adult volunteer directory or youth volunteer directory to find an opportunity that fits your interest, and then go out and make a difference in your community. You can also fill out a registration form and have us match your interest with an organization in need of volunteers. A community with many volunteers equals a community where people want to live and work.

"Two kinds of gratitude: the sudden kind we feel for what we take; the larger kind we feel for what we give." Edwin A. Robinson (1869-1935)

Days of Caring

United Way can help your organization or businesses organize a Day of Caring. A Day of Caring gives your employees the opportunity to complete a day-long volunteer project for a local nonprofit. Past projects have included landscaping a garden, painting a room, building wheelchair ramps, or repairing playground equipment. This is a great opportunity for your organization to get involved in the community. Volunteering groups may need to assist with project costs.
